Other than using our mixer for bread making and other bowl mixing, the ice cream attachment is the only one we have as an extra, and we have used it for years. It works well and saves us buying store ice cream as we prefer our own recipes, and they just taste better. We've had other ice cream makers over the years, and this method works as well as any - and is very easy to clean. I think you do need to hand wash it, and also handle with some care, i.e. don't drop it. Then it will last for a long time!
