Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wire Whip made of aluminum and stainless steel will corrode The wire whip that came with my beautiful new tilt head grape colored mixer is made of an aluminum body with stainless steel wires. Haven't your engineers every heard of galvanic corrosion? The aluminum will oxidize if you put this in contact with any conductive solution: Lemon juice, dishwasher soap, dish washing detergent, vinegar. Bad engineering! The oxidation forms an icky black powder that covers everything and gets in the food in the mixer if it gets wet. Eventually the wires will come out of the body as the corrosion continues. I tried coating mine with clear nail polish, but then it wouldn't fit on the head anymore. Make it all stainless.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Black residue everywhere - a mess! The top portion of my wire whisk has just left black residue all over my hands, in my frosting and on my towel. It's a mess. Evidently someone (guest, babysitter) put my whisk into the dishwasher unbeknownst to me. I cannot tell you how annoyed I am. I have used a kitchenaid stand mixer for years - my mother's (purchased probably 35-40 years ago) has never had this problem and her whisk has always been dishwasher friendly. Why in the world in this day and age any company would manufacture a product that could not be put in the dishwasher is beyond me. Other stand mixers that I know of do not have this issue. This should certainly have been stainless steel or some other non-oxidizing metal. Is there an alternate whisk available that I can use that doesn't have this issue? In looking at the reviews for this piece, I see that I am far from the only person who had a problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wire Whip Attachment Leaves a lot to be desired I am with ALL of the others who have had issues with this attachment. I can see that the breaking prongs is an issue for a lot of people and I HAVE sent an email to Corporate with my discontent about this accessory. I'm on my 4th replacement of this part and the cost has doubled since the first replacement. Very disappointed in this part and when I go to purchase a new mixer in another year, I'll go with another manufacturer and possibly just spend more on a commercial version as I'm adding to my cost every 6 months with this mixer anyway. Wake up KitchenAid...your customers are not happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Black Residue I am on this website for the same reason as all the other commenters. I put my wisk into the machine and it turned black and started rubbing off a thick black residue. I figured it was a reaction to the detergent and my fault for not hand-washing it. So, I tossed it and came here to buy a new one. But, now I see that everyone has the same problem regardless of how they wash it. What am I supposed to do now?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from broken wire I don't know what is the lifespan of this whisk attachment. I have had it for a couple of years now, but just now, the wire on the whisk just snapped off. two of them to be exact. It also rubbed off some kind of black substace. I am looking for a replacement but seeing the reviews, i am honestly discouraged.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Review feedback Same issue with the residue, but it would be SO MUCH MORE HELPFUL if corporate feedback would reply with more than just a thanks and please email us. This does absolutely nothing to help the rest of us who have the same issue, are considering buying, asking about a newer model/improved model, etc.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not sure this is safe... I have had my mixer for a while and LOVE it. However, I have had to stop using it with this attachment, and I used this attachment for so many things. The silver plating has worn off (and I have only ever hand washed it). If the connecting piece touches anything, a dark gray/black charcoal looking residue rubs off onto it. This can't be good!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disgusting Residue Straight out of Box I recently purchased this stand mixer (600 Profession Bowl Lift) as a graduation gift to myself. First and foremost, the stand mixer was greasy, (I don't know if that is normal) when I pulled the lever down to let the bowl down, there was this big log of yellow grease between where it goes up and down (again, I don't know if this is normal. Now what really bothered me is the whip, power knead, and flat beater. Unboxing, none of those tools were shiny, it was already "oxidized" and disgusting gray residue was being left only hand, I did not get a chance to use my mixer yet because I just received it in the mail today. I will not use my mixer with these tools because I am very afraid that it may get into my mixes as it does my hand. This seems very unsanitary and it is just not tolerable AT ALL.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Black Residue and Cracked The mixer is 6 months old, Christmas gift, and this is the first time we used the wire whisk. All we did is use it to make whip cream. The connector of the whisk, where it connecters to the mixer, has a lot of black residue and it has a crack in it right along the top rim. Would love to start using it more often but worried that it will end up in pieces in the bowl while being used. Is there going to be a better model of this whisk coming out soon?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not usable after a few months The finish of the head or connector at the top of the whip comes off so badly that it blackens your hand and anything it touches. It would be unsafe if food came up against it, I would say. I consider this a defect and wouldn't even buy the machine again. If newer models didn't have this issue, I would recommend it to a friend. Note that this model is too big to whip a couple of egg whites as it doesn't reach the bottom in a wide enough sweep.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Black Residue I am in agreement with other reviews regarding the black substance that comes off. I love the function of the whisk but the black residue is annoying. I've had my mixer for less than 6 months and want to purchase an additional whisk to expedite my process but I don't want to deal with the black residue. Is there a solution?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needed a replacement but not sure I love kitchen aid products and was looking to buy a replacement whisk when I read the reviews and it seems they all have the same issue I had with the plating rubbing off and it turning my hands black.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tough decision ... Metallic substance rubs off from the part of the whip (aluminum) which attaches to the mixer. The wires are stainless steel though so are fine. I see the newer models are all stainless steel & really want that. But now I'm caught with a tough decision...buy a new whip which will eventually have metallic substance rub off or just buy a newer model when I spent hundreds to buy my current mixer??

Rated 4 out of 5 by from my wire whip was great until it broke I have used my for a few years... it's always done great until last friday when one of the wires broke and can only be welded back together... I was just told that KitchenAid only warranties the mixer and parts for one year. I thought it would last a longer time than it has.. sad.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Got the stand mixer for my wedding 6 months ago, Made too much noice when I used the wire whip, within a few uses the wire came out and it was a hustle to put it back just for it to come right out as soon as I used it again. Purchased a replacement after a few months since I Didn't get a gift receipt and didn't know where it was purchased. Once again the wire is out and I can't use my great mixer again! What happened to the old whips they used to make my grandma's lasted her a lifetime. Very disappointed because I love my mixer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from comes with set, good for occasional use This comes with the original set. Within a few weeks of occasional use, the plating on the top had come off and was rubbing nasty black stuff on my fingers. Now after having had it for just over a year, two of the prongs are bent making a loud noise / scraping the metal bowl.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from expected it to last longer I had the same issue the previous reviewer stated. The six wire whip came with the mixer that I have only had for 3 months. One of the wires came loose from the hole and will not go back in. I would expect it to have lasted longer. Maybe it is still covered under warranty.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from achilles heel This attachment came with my mixer when I bought it years ago. I used it one time in a cookie dough and it cane apart. One of the "wisks" popped out of it's hole and can only be welded back in order for it to be fixed again. I consider that an achilles heel for it, so I guess you can only use it on cream or egg whites or something light like that. I had to spend another $20.00 for a new one.
