5 Quart Glass Bowl with Handle

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bowl Cracked... so disappointed! I love my KitchenAid Mixer and had bought it because of it's long lasting durability and timelessness. I was so excited to have the glass bowl with my mixer, because it has a spout and a lid which came in handy. However, just recently the bowl has cracked with a 7 inch crack down the side... I really couldn't believe it. I'm disappointed because the glass bowl is not cheap. It was nice while it lasted, but I was greatly surprised that it did crack because it seems to be heavy duty, that is just not the case. I'm so disappointed in KitchenAid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Its fine, but not steel The KSM105 was given to me for Christmas. I thought the glass bowl that was included with it was pretty nifty. I really liked that you could see the ingredients in your bowl. It made it really easy to make sure you didn't have any thing that was stuck to the bowl not getting mixed in. Luckily the bowl has not cracked on me like I've seen in numerous other reviews about this bowl, but it does chip extremely easily. The glass is not very well made. My biggest disappointment is that there is no pouring shield for this bowl. At least not that I could find. With this particular model and the bowl you have to have one. Its not really optional unless you enjoy having half of your ingredients on the counter top and floor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great in theory The bowl is great. Unfortunately, one day when I opened up my cupboard, the bowl had shattered! I have it in a safe place and take great care with it. I'm so sad that it broke and for such a high price, I'm more than a little disappointed. Replacing the bowl is out of my price range and it's a huge worry that this might happen again if I did spend the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from bowl cracked im so excited when i bought my first kitchen aid with glass bowl attachment. But the bowl didn't last long because it cracked when I'm attaching it to the mixer,i think kitchen aid should do a better job and live up to the name because their product is not cheap.Very disappointed because i only had it for only less than a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Love it!!! now I can see everything that is being mixed. Also love that it has a pour spout and comes with a lid/cover. Was pricey, but if you bake a lot; well worth it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Base Broke I bought this for my wife 2 months ago. She loved it until today. After washing the bowl, the base cracked as she was reattaching it to the mixer stand. As evidenced by the many reviews I've just read on your site, this is a known problem and is very upsetting to customers like myself who pay a premium price expecting to get high quality that the KitchenAid brand has been known for in the past. Is KitchenAid doing anything to redesign the base?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke on second use Broke the second time we used it on our brand new mixer. The bowl snapped completely off from the base where it connects to the mixer, while mixing cookies. We used the glass bowl for the second batch because the first batch of cookies was contaminated from metal and black grease still on the stainless steel mixing bowl after washing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Make America great again I just bought this 5 quart glass mixer bowl with measuring marks and lid. Wow, what a disappointment! Does "Made in Mexico" mean anything to you? Let me describe as gently as I can, maybe my anger might crack this inferior blown glass. It's no imitation - the lid and glass are both stamped "KitchenAid". Living here 19 miles from the border of Mexico, I avoid buying their glass. It is not tempered properly, and usually full of bubbles (holes), and has been known to break by the temperature changes alone! Lo and behold, there are more than twenty bubbles in this glass bowl! I am surprised to be duped by a "reputable" company unwilling to pay fair wages and resorts to outsourcing. Listen, if you were dumped on in this past financial meltdown, it was because of companies like this. So if you lost your job and can't get better than minimum wage - stay away from KitchenAid until they turn around. This item gets two stars: one star for it actually being a glass bowl, and another for not cracking on the first wash.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bowl Cracked First Time Used! Very disappointed!! I purchased the KitchenAid Deluxe Edition Stand Mixer a while ago and didn't have space on my counter so I had not unpacked it. My son and I were getting ready to make Christmas cookies and he asked me if I had a KitchenAid mixer. We got it out of the box, set it up and mixed up the batter. Removed the bowl, washed it and put it back on and it cracked!!! I was totally shocked! With the cost of these mixers, I would expect better quality. I'm extremely disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I receive this as a gift and I absolutely love it. I love that it comes with a lid so dust isn't collecting in the bowl. Having the pouring lip definitely eliminates spills as well. I know a lot of people said they're both has cracked, my advice is to keep your box and your receipt and call customer service if you're bowl cracks. My ice cream attachment actually broke and KitchenAid sent me a brand new one and I didn't even have the receipt. So I give them 5 stars for their customer service as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be Careful! Cracks Easily! I registered for this for my wedding. Could not imagine a kitchen without a mixer and I liked how you could see the ingredients in the bowl. I hand wash this bowl every time I use it. I was hand washing it earlier today after baking a cake. I heard a pop and the bowl had a huge crack it it. I love the look and utility of the bowl, but I will probably be sticking to metal from now on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly Happy with mine I have had my mixer about 6 months. I now average a cake a week (everyone loves lemon pound cakes). I find the bowl heavy but then again I'm 80. Donna the Dough Girl's review caught my eye. I have the opposite problem. My bowl locks with the handle close to the mixer but has not cracked. Probably because I have to be careful not to mash my fingers. The other thing is, I am left handed! That coupled with the fact that it's heavy causes me to be more careful not to drop it makes me exercise caution. Seating it requires a second effort sometimes. Otherwise I am happy with the bowl. The only other thing is my switch doesn't move easily from setting to setting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed I was gifted a bowl for Christmas as I only had the metal bowl. I could never get the bowl to sit in place and it would move around so much so i had to hold it with both hands and only on the lowest speed. I received a replacement bowl after contacting kitchenaid. Sad to say the same thing happened. It won't lock into place. For something that costs so much money I am really disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware of the glass bowl I love love love the 5qt mixer i purchased but it came with the glass bowl which looks very nice and is handy for seeing your ingredients but the 3rd time it was used the very bottom where the bowl locks in cracked with tiny shards of glass getting in my finger. I have wanted one of these mixers my whole life and after spurging on the purchase i am disappointed in the glass quality and wish mine had come with the metal bowl. Now im stuck with a 300 counter decoration or spending 60-70 to buy a new bowl or using it without it being locked in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it I love my glass bowl. I have seen the reviews about the chipping problems but, I have not had any chipping problems. The only problem I have is difficulty in snapping it into place. It takes a bit of maneuvering unlike the stainless steel bowl which snaps right in, otherwise I love the size and find no problems with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wonderful Bowl But With a Fatal Flaw I have had my glass bowl for a couple years and I love it. It's great for all kind of mixing tasks but especially for cakes and breads. Because it's clear it is easy to see to make sure that everything is mixed in; no flour or liquid lying unmixed in the bottom. It is also great for measuring bread rise because you can clearly see when the dough has doubled, with or without the measurement marks on the side. BUT it is so easy to break the bowl just securing it into the mixer stand base. The optimism way to secure it brings the spout in such close contact with the back of the stand that the slightest touch can chip or crack the spout. (See pix) I'm so sorry that mine has chipped and cracked just from regular use. I wish this had a better design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Broken Base I've had this bowl for years and never had a problem... until the plastic piece that holds the base down broke. Now the bowl is useless as far as using it with the mixer. I've looked online to purchase a replacement and can't find one. I can buy replacement lids, but not the plastic base.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glad to learn it was not just mine I upgraded from the 4.5 quart to this mixer and the glass bowl broke the first month. I thought it was just me! The bowl has functional problems. First - it does not attach to the mixer very well. It takes multiple tries and does not feel sturdy in the base. And as a result of juggling to get in the pour spout hit the machine and it cracked the bowl. I now use my 4.5 quart metal bowl - although the whole reason I purchased was for the larger capacity since I use very often. I did call Customer Service and they are shipping a new one - I just wish I could have replaced with Metal bowl. I am very nervous about using the glass bowl again but really do need the larger size. I am disappointed I will have to ultimately purchase the metal bowl and spend more money - but do appreciate Kitchen aid replacing the broken bowl. I would recommend the mixer but not the glass bowl.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So sad- broken glass bowl after 4 uses I am so upset-- the bowl cracked after a couple uses. I carefully hand wash it every time. I put it in the standing mixer. Then a few minutes later we heard a popping/cracking sound and looked over to see a crack in the glass. Something about the pressure of locking it in place stressed the glass. I would not recommend this glass bowl.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bowl Shattered I've had my Kitchenaid mixer with this glass bowl for about 5 months now. While using the mixer the silver cover from the top attachment spot fell down into the bowl while the mixer was on. My bowl immediately Shattered everywhere and the mixer jammed up and stopped turning. I called Kitchenaid customer service and they are sending my a new one since mine was still under warranty. Good job to customer service but this bowl needs to be more sturdy. I am looking into getting the stainless steel bowl now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Chipped after few uses I received this as gift from my grandmother for my wedding. It was the kitchenaid mixer, with a glass bowl. The glass bowl broke after about 4 uses :( simply was pouring a glass measuring cup with milk into the glass bowl and it chipped right at the spout. So upset this happened :( not sure what to do about it now. Kitchenaid is great, but can be expensive! With the name and price attached to it, I expected this bowl to last.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So bummed that it's broken. I'm so sad and bummed about my kitchenaid glass mixing bowl. It's what makes my mixer look so great on the counter, and I loved it. Today, I made some cake batter and washed the bowl. I set it down on the counter and then heard it crack. What a mess - glass everywhere. I always hand washed it and was so careful. For the price, I sure wish it was tougher.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chipped bowl I am so disappointed in my glass mixing bowl. It has chips on the rim, I always hand wash and dry it and I have no idea how the chips came to be. My mixer is such an amazing appliance, but to replace the glass bowl is very expensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chipped I have had this glass bowl for about a year now. I had just made some cookies and hand washed the bowl and set it down to dry on a t-towel on my counter. I then put another bowl down next to it and it must have hit the glass bowl just right because it made a sound and I noticed a huge chip on the rim. :( I love my KitchenAid Mixer and use it almost every weekend for baking but I was disappointed that such a minor tap from another bowl [from one of my vintage - 50 year old FireKing jadite bowls] could do the type of damage it did.
